In Singapore, the understanding of fractions is rooted in the Concrete, Pictorial, Abstract (CPA) model. In this course, Dr Yeap Ban Har will demonstrate how the use of pictures and careful naming will develop and ensure children’s understanding of fractions.

Learn about Jerome Bruner's 'Spiral Curriculum', a teaching approach in which each subject or skill area is revisited in intervals at a more sophisticated level each time. This approach gives pupils a deeper understanding of a concept.

You’ll learn the two keys to learning fractions, the operations, plus challenging word problems and bar modelling for fraction problems.

Teachers will learn about teaching fractions across all year groups. Plus, they’ll gain content knowledge which will allow them to see what their pupils are doing with greater clarity and ultimately be confident at teaching fractions.

Training consultant - Dr Yeap Ban Har

Ban Har is one of the world’s leading experts on the Singapore Method and teaching to mastery. An accomplished and inspirational speaker, Ban Har spent ten years at the National Institute of Education in Singapore where he was involved in several funded research programmes in mathematics education. Ban Har was part of the team which reviewed the Singapore Maths curriculum for the revised 2013 syllabus and he teaches courses at tertiary institutions in South East Asia and North America.
