  Placement
Students studying the Singapore maths programme excel quickly and therefore the levels listed here do not correspond exactly to local school years. For example, it would not be unusual for a student in Year 5 to be working on Year 3 or 4 Singapore maths level.

In order to determine the level at which a student should begin, he or she should take a placement test. These tests cover the range of material dealt with in both the textbooks and the workbooks. If a student achieves an overall score of 80% on a placement test, this would indicate that he or she is ready for the next level. These workbooks reinforce key maths principles through problem solving, so if a student consistently misses problems from the same topic area, consideration should be given to starting at the tested level regardless of the overall score.

These tests are not meant to be timed, but you should allow about an hour for the tests at the primary level and several hours for the tests at the secondary level.
